Carnevale di Ivrea, Feb 2009
Il carnevale di Ivrea e' una antica manifestazione nata nel 1808 ricalcando antiche feste di quartiere. La sua denominazione ufficiale e' "Storico Carnevale di Ivrea" e si ripete annualmente seguendo un severo cerimoniale che coinvolge la cittadinanza e gran quantita' di turisti.
Il Carnevale si sviluppa sovrapponendo eventi storici e leggenda popolare, ed e' noto soprattutto per la spettacolare "battaglia delle arance" che si ripete nelle varie piazze della citta' tra squadre a terra e squadre su carri trainati da cavalli, con gli spettatori che fanno da cornice "protetti" dai loro berretti "rosso frigio".

The Carnival in Ivrea is an old representation first held in 1808 following traditional celebrations in the city quarters. Its official denomination is "Historical Carnival of Ivrea" and is replayed yearly respecting a solemn ceremonial that involves the inhabitants and crowds of tourists.
The Carnival develops mixing historical events and popular legends, and is most known for the spectacular "battle of the oranges" that goes on in several places of the city between grounded gangs and gangs on carts drown by horses, while the spectators follow the events "protected" by their traditional red Phrygian caps.
